- Tooling design workbench and contextual menus: The die designer benefits from a dedicated workbench to support all tasks, including componentinstantiation and drilling operations. Convenient contextual menus provide productive simultaneousmanagement of component and drilling operations. Dedicated icons for die components are availablein the specification tree.
- Major productivity gains and short training cycles through the native Microsoft™ Windows™ userinterface:An icon-based and flexible and scalable approach accommodate a wide range of users, from beginnersand casual users using pull down menus and panels, to advanced users employing contextual menus andkeyboard shortcuts. Preview and direct mouse-based manipulations and specifications can be usedduring feature creation, while drag-and-drop can be used for modifications.Full support of Microsoft Windows user interface standards are supported, such as pull-down menus, messaging, online help, the select-action approach, multi-windowing, and icon dockingreorganization. The dynamic user interface includes fast, mouse-based 3D graphical manipulationsand a copilot concept, allowing the contextual preselection (by means of highlight) of allowedgraphical entities. A contextual HTML documentation browser makes it easy to find informationspecific to the task at hand.
- Definition of general mechanical components and general die components read from catalogs andincluding powerful embedded drilling capabilities: The Tooling Design Workbench provides a rich variety of component types:
- Base components (insert, slider, retainer, lifter)
- Ejection components (ejector pin, ejector, flat ejector, ejector sleeve, core pin, angle pin, stoppin)
- Guiding components (leader pin, bushing)
- Fixing components (cap screw, countersunk screw, locking screws)
- Locating components (sleeves, locating ring, dowel pin)
- Miscellaneous components (eye bolt, spring, support pillars)
The die designer can automatically create components, including standard definitions, parameters, and design tables from catalogs and can automatically define drilling information (associated holes)according to tooling design rules. Additionally, fixing components, dowel pins, springs, and usercomponents that already comply with industry standards are available to the designer. Thousands ofconfigurations are available in these standard catalogs and associated design tables. For othercomponent types, the product offers specific catalogs with samples. To facilitate access via the catalog interface, components are identified by parameters specific tothe component type. At instantiation time, the system configures the parameter of the component andupdates the nomenclature to be used in the die assembly's bill of materials (BOM). - User-defined components adaptable to any die context:User components can be created and stored in user catalogs. The user component can be of apreviously defined type (for example, leader pin or ejector pin) or of no particular type, as afree-form component. User components are managed with their associated holes as it is done forstandard components.
- Generation of BOMs: Die designers can generate dedicated and customizable BOMs and nomenclature from the configurationof the component. Textual format, HTML, or XLS (Excel) formats can be generated interactively.BOMs can be based on user-defined attributes, which can be defined either externally via a file (TXTor XLS) or manually. Specific formats can also be defined (subset of user-defined attributes) andre-used for BOM generation. Listing reports, including assembly trees and the attributes of eachcomponent, can be generated.
- Use connectivity to boost synergism and develop engineering team spirit:Instant Collaborative Design 1 provides a pervasive and simple way to collaborate in theengineering organization. Through a tool bar, instant collaboration is available at any time tocontact someone, chat, exchange design contents, or to organize a 3D meeting. Designers communicateeasily and spontaneously from CATIA V5 within work groups to do concurrent design and conductreviews. Real-time information offers the best interactivity in this environment. In client-servermode, connectivity benefits from standard, robust communication to connect CATIA V5 to the fullyextended enterprise.
- Reduce detailed design activity bottlenecks with co-design: Cycle time for designing can be reduced drastically. One part can be designed by several usersin an informal process through briefcase exchanges, an approach previously unmatched in itssimplicity. Designers can select geometric or knowledgeware specifications from their own part orsurface and share them with others through briefcases. Briefcases are managed within the workinggroup using a mailbox approach in which users have the option to open and merge the contents of abriefcase with their own part. When parts used in a working group or co-design come from the samesource part, all rerouting capabilities are done automatically.
- Increase know-how exchanges: Through briefcase exchanges, especially those that contain knowledgeware, re-use and the exchangeof know-how are natural and lead to better quality products. Briefcases are always self-contained;that is, the information in a briefcase can be merged even in a completely different context thanthe one used to create the briefcase. This feature is very useful in knowledge capture scenarios.By enabling a better design based on concurrent teamwork, CATIA — Instant Collaborative Design 1can reduce the number of design iterations that need to be stored and avoids an unnecessary numberof unacceptable design versions.
- Leave more room for innovation: Instant Collaborative Design 1 offers a unique playground for 3D brainstorming in early designphases. In these highly restricted phases, exchange security benefits from client-server mode, which fully ensures secured workspace access through server authentication. In this mode, workspaces are fully defined and managed by their owners. A workspace is only visible to itsmembers, and only the briefcases attached to it can be managed and accessed.
- Shrink drastically the time needed to design for the integrated supplier chain: High flexibility is implemented by the synchronous-asynchronous modes for workspace and briefcasemanagement in client-server mode. Instant connectivity and collaborative review capabilities offerefficient, interactive communications to avoid the delays and misunderstandings that are typical ofserial communication. 3D conferencing enables users to switch listener and publisher roles, ascompared to simple display sharing, and reinforces interactivity during the review.
- Adapt the product to your needs:The product can be used in peer-to-peer mode for a local area network usage without any server orconfiguration. For use in the extended enterprise, it can be used in client-server mode. In thismode, it takes advantage of standard communication solutions integration, which supports extendedenterprise infrastructures and security mechanisms.

Back to topTechnical information Hardware requirements
Summary of changes for V5.14- The Fire GL T2-128 and Fire GL X1 graphics adapters are now supported for HP-UX.
- The XVR 600 graphic adapter is now supported for Sun Solaris 8 HW 05/03.
Common hardware requirementsThe following requirements are common to all operating systems supported by this release. Systemunit and graphics adapter requirements are platform-specific and are specified in subsequent topicsbelow.- Required components and features
- Disk drive: An internal or external disk drive (minimum recommended size is 4 GB) is requiredto store program executables, program data, the user environment, and to provide paging space.Installation of all CATIA V5 products requires 2.0 GB on Windows, 2.4 GB on AIX, 2.7 GB onHP-UX, 2.5 GB on IRIX, and 2.3 GB on Solaris.
- Memory: 256 MB of RAM is the minimum recommended for all applications. 512 MB of RAM isrecommended for DMU applications on large assemblies and for the Digitized Shape Editor 2 (DSE)product. Requirements may be greater when large amounts of data are used.
- Internal/external drives: A CD-ROM drive is required for program installation and for access to theonline documentation, which can optionally be downloaded to disk.
- Display: A graphics color display compatible with the selected platform-specific graphics adapter. The minimum recommended size for usability reasons is 17 inches. Minimum resolution for Windowsworkstations is 1024 x 768 and 1280 x 1024 for UNIX workstations. Whenselecting a graphics adapter, hardware texturing capability is strongly recommended when using CATIAV5 products that use texture mapping, in which case the amount of texture RAM has to be adequate forthe number and complexity of textures to be used.
- Keyboard: A specific keyboard compatible with the selected installation locale may be required fornational language support.
- Pointing device: Three-button mouse. On Windows workstations, a two-button mouse may alternativelybe used (the third button is emulated with a keyboard sequence). The three-button mouse isrecommended for usability reasons. IntelliMouse (two buttons plus a wheel instead of the thirdbutton) is an alternative to the three-button mouse on Windows workstations. The wheel acts as themiddle button to allow additional manipulations, such as panning and scrolling.
- Optional components and features: For CATIA P2 and P3, SpaceBall or SpaceMouse, in addition to thestandard mouse, can be used to perform graphic manipulations (zoom, pan, rotate). The requireddrivers are delivered with these devices. Support of these devices is also available with the DMUNavigator 1 and DMU Space Analysis 1 P1 products.
The robustness of the overall solution is dependent on the robustness of the operating system andthe hardware environment used. Terms and conditions Agreement: IBM Customer Agreement (ICA)Designated machine: Not requiredVariable charges apply: NoLocation license applies: NoUse limitation applies: Yes, as implemented by the license management mechanism described. The license management modelCATIA V5 license management on workstations: In workstation environments, CATIA controls the number of concurrentusers of a CATIA configuration or product, according to the number oflicense keys acquired for the configuration or product.CATIA V5 delivers identical license management mechanisms on UNIX andWindows environments, based on IBM License Use Management (LUM). Thefollowing license management principles apply:CATIA V5 can be used in three license management modes: nodelock, withconcurrent usage of license keys on a network, or concurrent offlinelicense management.Nodelock usage: The use of a local display of the hardware configuration is mandatoryfor CATIA V5 usage in nodelock mode. There is no limit to the number ofCATIA V5 processes launched for a given license key (configuration orproduct). For instance, a user can launch the following simultaneousprocesses:In the nodelock mode of operation, only one CATIA license key perconfiguration and product can be registered by machine, and only oneCATIA user can run at a time. If multiple license keys per configurationor product, or multiple users, are required, refer to theConcurrent usagesection.Concurrent usage:A user on one machine on one display uses one license key perconfiguration or product used, regardless of the number of processes. Ifthe display changes, then an additional license key is taken for thecorresponding process.License keys for CATIA configurations are acquired and released for thetotal configuration. The functions within a configuration cannot beshared.Dynamic license management: Shareable product license keys may be acquired at the beginning of thesession and released at its termination or, upon user request, acquiredand released during the session. (The ability to acquire and releaselicenses is not available for configurations.) Shareable license keysacquired at the beginning of the session cannot be released before theend of the session; only license keys dynamically granted upon userrequest during the session can be released during the session.Concurrent offline license management:A concurrent license key control technique is available via the LUMserver. It gives CATIA, ENOVIA DMU, DELMIA, and RADE applicationsrunning on a Windows laptop the ability to disconnect from the licensekey server for a specific period of time so that users can take advantageof the full license key capability while mobile. During the checkoutperiod, the license key is unavailable for use by another concurrentuser. This feature is designed to add additional flexibility to a user'swork environment. It is offered to accommodate short-term travel needsand collaboration while away from a fixed office environment or serverconnection. All ICA terms and conditions, including cross-borderlicensing terms, are unchanged, and users will check-out and check-inlicense keys at their home server, where rules and procedures arecontrolled by LUM.Note to users of the following SMARTEAM-branded CATIA integrationproducts:Program services/SoftwareXcel Enterprise Edition or SoftwareXcel BasicEdition: Program Services for CATIA V5 and WLS Products will beavailable until discontinued by IBM upon six months' written notice. For a list of all currently supported releases of CATIA, ENOVIA, andSMARTEAM products, visit- http://techsupport.services.ibm.com/engineering/support

The new release also includes corrections to problems, depending on the time of their submission and their severity.Corrective Service for CATIA V5 releases is delivered through servicepacks on a regular basis. A service pack includes corrections forSeverity 1 problems in production systems reported on this release andall corrections available for all components at the time it is built.Service packs are provided at the same time for all platforms currentlysupported. Each service pack supersedes the previous one and may beinstalled on top of the released level or on top of a previous servicepack. No individual corrections will be delivered between two servicepacks.Customers may request a correction via a service pack for BlockingProblems. A Blocking Problem is defined as:Requests for corrections to a given release of CATIA V5 and WLS productsmay be made up to 4 months after the next subsequent release of theproduct becomes generally available. With the availability of thisrelease, the end of corrective service (EoCS) date for CATIA V5.13 andWLS V5.13 will be four months after the general availability date of thisrelease. For the duration of the service period of each release, thefinal service pack can be ordered on CD-ROM via the Support Centers.Customers can report problems against a given release of CATIA V5 and WLSproducts for a limited time only. This service period ends 4 monthsafter the general availability of the second sequential release. Withthe availability of this release, the end of service (EoS) date for CATIAV5.12 and WLS V5.12 will be 4 months after the general availability dateof this release.Patio Umbrella Stem Adapter
